Here at St. Naul’s National School we are delighted that Jackie Hughes of Eany Celtic football club has returned to coach Ms. McGroary’s class on Friday mornings. The pupils are encouraged to maintain physical activity while enhancing their teamwork skills.

Daily Mile!
Daily Mile!

All the pupils returned after the summer holidays energised and ready to continue with our physical activities. The dance breaks continue to be enjoyed by all the junior classes. Our Active committee all agreed that ‘The Daily Mile’ was the most popular running initiative. It was decided to commence this on 9th September for 2 weeks and we will re-visit this at that stage. Let’s get active, let’s stay active!

We have two new members on the committee, Shay and Anna who replace Karl and Lucy who have moved on to the Abbey Vocational School.

Hurling

As part of our campaign to get the children more active and try difference sports, Donie and Brian from Donegal G.A.A. came to the school to show the children some hurling skills. Our thanks to Donie and Brian for their expertise.

Astroturf Trip!
Astroturf Trip!

In our parents survey, we asked what we could do to help improve P.E. in the school. Part of the feedback received suggested that we should involve the children who do not necessarily participate in team sports; in a non competitive activity. As a response to this, we organised for the pupils to travel to the astroturf pitch at Eany Celtic FC, where we organised lots of games for fun only! They had lots of laughs as they took part in the various activities. Good fun all round!

Our ‘star chart’ is going well. The children are working hard towards positive behaviour in the yard and when they are lining up. The ‘active’ prize of 10 minutes extra playtime is awarded when 5 stars are gained by the winning class. This is a great incentive to continue positive active vibes.

Easter Fun In The Sun!!
Easter Fun In The Sun!!

‘Move Well Move Often’

Everyone at St. Naul’s enjoyed the fun activities out in the sunshine today. The children on the Active Committee organised an obstacle race starting with a ‘bunny hop’ onto hopscotch followed by an egg throw into hoops, and lastly an egg & spoon race. We had five teams of 16 and the red team were delighted to be the fastest ‘active’ winners. Their prize of a night off homework on the first day back after the Easter break was met with great cheers!

Well done to all the boys and girls today.

Spring has Sprung!
Spring has Sprung!

Our Garden Club was set up this week. A group of children will work at tidying up our flower beds and planting new bulbs. This is a great chance for the children to be active and take part in multi-sensory activities such as planting, weeding, feeding and harvesting.

Our boys and girls teams took part in the Spar 5-a-side soccer competition today at Eany Celtic FC in Inver. Both teams played some great football – even playing through the hailstone showers that descended on them! Well done to everyone who took part today and represented the school.
